The tour begins with a ride out of Luang Prabang. The first part of the ride will take you through the quieter outskirts of the city.
As you leave the urban area, the road becomes more scenic, passing through lush countryside. You’ll cycle alongside a mix of farmland, rice paddies, and small villages.
Your guide will point out interesting sights and give you insights into local life along the way.
You’ll have opportunities for short breaks to rehydrate, take photos, and absorb the peaceful rural scenery.
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Kuang Si Falls Exploration & Swim (Approx. 2 hours)
Upon arrival at the falls, you’ll park your bikes.
You’ll have plenty of time to explore the breathtaking multi-tiered waterfalls. The turquoise water is a result of the high calcium content in the limestone cliffs.
Bear Sanctuary: Before reaching the main falls, you’ll pass through the Free the Bears rescue center. This sanctuary provides a safe home for Asiatic black bears rescued from poachers. It’s an important and educational stop.
Swimming and Relaxation: You can take a refreshing swim in the designated pools below the main cascade. There are changing rooms available for your convenience.
You can also take a short hike up to the top of the falls for a different perspective.
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch and Return Journey
After your time at the falls, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved local lunch at a restaurant near the entrance. This is a chance to refuel and relax.
Following lunch, you have two options for the return journey:
- Option 1: Cycle back (Recommended): The ride back is a fun and easy downhill journey for the most part, allowing you to enjoy the scenery from a new perspective. The total distance for the round trip would be 60km.
- Option 2: Vehicle Transfer: For those who are tired or simply prefer not to cycle back, most tours have a support vehicle that can transport you and your bike back to Luang Prabang. This is often the option for a half-day tour.
- You’ll be transferred back to your hotel or the tour office, concluding the adventure by 1:30 PM.
- This itinerary offers a perfect balance of active adventure and relaxation, allowing you to truly appreciate the natural and cultural highlights of the Luang Prabang countryside. The 30km distance is challenging enough to feel like an accomplishment but accessible for a wide range of fitness levels, especially with the vehicle option for the return halfday trip.
